The Green Weenie was developed in Pennsylvania as a pattern to imitate a variety of small inch worms found in the spring and summer. How ever this pattern as proven itself as a general attractor pattern, a caddis pattern and a steelhead pattern. For all intensive purposes the green weenie fished as a wet fly or a jigs effectively imitates a genus of caddis flies called Rhyacophila, locally know as the green rock worm. However is also is an effective imitation for several caddis in the family Hydropsychidae.
